Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy & Integration in Ontario

Preparation and integration psychotherapy for psychedelic and altered-state experiences

Psychedelic experiences can bring forward powerful emotions, memories, perspectives, questions, and insights. Whether you are preparing for an experience or trying to understand one that has already occurred, having a trained psychotherapist can provide a grounded, nonjudgmental space for reflection and integration.

At Solution Therapy & Coaching, I provide virtual psychedelic preparation and integration psychotherapy for adults across Toronto, the GTA, and Ontario. This may include therapeutic support related to experiences involving psilocybin, ayahuasca, MDMA, ketamine, and other psychedelic or altered states.

My approach is trauma-informed and integrates somatic and body-based therapy, EMDR, IFS-informed work, CBT, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation according to your individual needs.

What Is Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy?

Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy is an emerging area of mental health care that brings psychotherapy into the broader process surrounding psychedelic or altered-state experiences.

The psychotherapy component may involve preparation before an experience, integration afterward, or ongoing therapy focused on the emotions, memories, insights, relationships, and patterns that emerge.

You do not need to have had a positive or profound psychedelic experience to benefit from integration therapy. Experiences can be meaningful, confusing, emotionally challenging, difficult to describe, or sometimes seemingly uneventful.

Our work begins with your experience and what it means to you, rather than imposing an interpretation upon it.

Psychedelic Preparation Therapy

Preparation can help you approach a psychedelic experience with greater psychological awareness, realistic expectations, and an understanding of your own emotional needs.

What Can We Explore During Preparation?

Depending on your circumstances, preparation psychotherapy may include:

  • your reasons for considering a psychedelic experience;

  • therapeutic goals and intentions;

  • hopes, fears, and expectations;

  • emotional and psychological readiness;

  • previous trauma or difficult experiences;

  • recurring thoughts, beliefs, or relationship patterns;

  • grounding and nervous system regulation;

  • coping strategies for challenging emotions;

  • boundaries and personal safety;

  • your support system; and

  • planning for integration afterward.

Preparation does not mean predicting or controlling what will happen.

Instead, we create a therapeutic foundation from which you can approach your experience with greater awareness, curiosity, and psychological flexibility.

Psychedelic Integration Therapy

A psychedelic experience may end within hours, but understanding and integrating it can take considerably longer.

Psychedelic integration therapy provides a dedicated therapeutic space to explore what happened and how it may relate to your life.

Integration May Help You Explore:

  • emotions or memories that surfaced;

  • changes in perspective;

  • difficult or confusing experiences;

  • bodily sensations and emotional responses;

  • recurring psychological patterns;

  • relationships and attachment;

  • grief, trauma, fear, or self-criticism;

  • questions about identity, meaning, or purpose;

  • increased self-compassion or emotional awareness; and

  • changes you may want to make in everyday life.

The goal is not simply to analyze the psychedelic experience.

Integration asks a more practical question:

What, if anything, from this experience is meaningful for the life you are living now?

Integration After a Difficult Psychedelic Experience

Not every psychedelic experience feels peaceful, insightful, or healing.

Some experiences can be frightening, confusing, emotionally intense, or difficult to understand afterward. You may feel unsettled by memories, emotions, imagery, bodily sensations, or questions that emerged.

You do not need to make sense of everything immediately.

Trauma-informed psychotherapy can provide a slower, grounded space to explore the experience without forcing meaning onto it.

Our work may focus on emotional stabilization, grounding, nervous system regulation, understanding what was activated, and gradually integrating the experience into your broader therapeutic work.

Psilocybin Preparation & Integration

I provide psychotherapy for adults seeking support before or after experiences involving psilocybin or psychedelic mushrooms.

Preparation may involve intentions, expectations, emotional readiness, grounding, psychological history, and planning for support afterward.

Psilocybin integration therapy may involve processing emotions, imagery, memories, relationships, perspectives, or questions that arose during or following the experience.

The psychotherapy does not require us to treat everything experienced during an altered state as literal or factual. We can explore memories, images, and narratives with curiosity while avoiding assumptions about what they necessarily represent.

Ayahuasca Preparation & Integration

Ayahuasca experiences can sometimes involve intense emotional, psychological, somatic, symbolic, or spiritual material.

If you are independently planning an ayahuasca experience, psychotherapy beforehand can provide an opportunity to explore your intentions, expectations, concerns, emotional readiness, and plans for support afterward.

Following an experience, integration therapy can provide a grounded environment for exploring what emerged and determining what may be useful or meaningful in your everyday life.

My role is to provide psychotherapeutic preparation and integration, not to provide, arrange, recommend, or facilitate access to ayahuasca.

MDMA & Other Psychedelic Experiences

Preparation and integration psychotherapy may also be helpful for people processing experiences involving MDMA or other psychedelic and altered states.

The therapeutic focus remains on your psychological and emotional experience, rather than on the substance itself.

We can explore what arose, what remains unresolved, and how the experience relates to your existing therapeutic goals.

A Trauma-Informed, Body-Based Approach

Psychedelic experiences don't occur only at the level of thoughts.

People may experience strong emotions, physical sensations, shifts in self-perception, memories, imagery, or changes in how they understand relationships and past experiences.

For this reason, my integration approach can draw from:

  • Somatic and body-based psychotherapy;

  • EMDR;

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed approaches;

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT);

  • mindfulness;

  • nervous system regulation;

  • grounding and stabilization; and

  • trauma-informed psychotherapy.

We determine together which approaches are appropriate rather than assuming every psychedelic experience needs to be processed in the same way.

Psychedelic Integration Is About More Than the Experience

A powerful insight does not automatically create lasting change.

Integration can involve exploring how an experience relates to your:

Mind — thoughts, beliefs, perspectives, and emotional patterns.

Body — sensations, nervous system responses, and somatic awareness.

Relationships — connection, attachment, boundaries, and communication.

Values — what matters to you and how you want to live.

Daily life — habits, choices, routines, and meaningful behavioural changes.

The purpose is not to preserve an altered state. It is to determine whether something from the experience can be integrated into your ordinary life in a healthy and sustainable way.

What If You Are Interested Specifically in Ketamine?

Ketamine differs from many other psychedelics because it can be prescribed and administered within an established medical treatment pathway.

Through Solution Therapy & Coaching, I also provide Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), including psychotherapy preparation and integration coordinated with a specialized medical ketamine provider.

The medical provider is responsible for determining eligibility, prescription, ketamine administration, treatment planning, and medical monitoring.
